Early surgery in Cleft lip gives good results. This surgery should be done early preferably at the age of 2-3 month.
Cleft palate Surgery
Cleft palate surgery is undertaken to close the oral cavity from the nasal cavity and to restore speech. Preferable this surgery should be done prior to the child learning to talk that is between 6-9months of age. At this age the child is better equipped to undergo a major surgery in the head and neck region.
Minor Lip Palate and nose correction
There will be certain situation which need minor correction surgeries lip, palate and nose. These surgeries at best done in the pre-school age below 6yr of age before the child start formal schooling
The Alveolar is the arch that supports the upper teeth. In cases of cleft the gap in the arch will give rise to abnormal growth of teeth to prevent this an alveolar bone graft is done, so that the teeth have a strong bony support to grow. This surgery is typically done at 9-10years of age.
Maxillary Mandibular Osteotomy
Some of the patients of cleft lip and palate may have abnormal development of the Jaw. There abnormalities can be corrected through surgery. The corrective surgery of this type involves bony surgery on the upper and lower Jaw. The correct timing for there bony surgeries would be after the growth of facial bones that is after 16 years of age.
Patients with complete cleft and palate have abnormal growth of the nose and septum.
They will have to undergo corrective Septo- Rhinoplasty or composite correction of secondary Cleft lip and Nose deformity.
SCLND Correction would involve the spectrum of surgeries like Septoplasty, Rhinoplasty, Bone grafting, Scar revision etc
This spectrum of surgery is undertaken after 16-18year of age.
