Facelift or rhytidectomy is a surgical procedure to improve visible signs of aging in the face and neck. This will lift the sagging of skin around the face which is one of the features of aging. This can be done by surgery, or non-surgically using facelift threads. This can be done under local anaesthesia or general anaesthesia

Facelift is the right option for those who are concerned about signs of ageing like:

  • Sagging in the midface
  • Deep creases below the lower eyelids
  • Deep creases along the nose extending to the corner of the mouth
  • Fat that has fallen or is displaced
  • Loss of muscle tone in the lower face may create jowls

Rejuvenation procedures typically performed in conjunction with a facelift are brow lift, to correct a sagging or deeply furrowed brow, and eyelid surgery to rejuvenate aging eyes.

As a restorative surgery, a facelift does not change your fundamental appearance and cannot stop the aging process.
A facelift can only be performed surgically; non-surgical rejuvenation treatments cannot achieve the same results, but may help delay the time at which a facelift becomes appropriate and complement the results of surgery.

A thread lift is a minimally invasive procedure used to tackle mild to moderate sagging of the face. The procedure consists of inserting fine sutures which have barbs under the skin, and the skin is then re-draped over the sutures. The thread lift procedure is simpler to perform and typically has a shorter recovery time than a traditional facelift surgery.

These procedures can be done under local anaesthesia or general anaesthesia, your plastic surgeon will discuss with you which is appropriate anesthesia for you.

Immediately after the procedure, a bandage could gently be placed around the face to minimize swelling and bruising. A thin tube may be present to drain any excess blood or fluid that may collect under the skin.

This usually done as a day care procedure though some choose to be hospitalized for a day. Following this a week of rest is usually recommended.

It may take several months for swelling to fully dissipate and up to 6 months for incision lines to mature. Life-long sun protection will help to maintain the rejuvenated appearance by minimizing photo-aging or sun damage. In addition, a healthy lifestyle will also help extend the results of the rejuvenated, more youthful appearance.
